Professor F. P. Sandes. Appointed Sydney University The announcement In yesterday's Telegraph that Dr. F. Sandes had been appointed to the newly established chair of surgery at the Sydney University, has a special interest for Brisbane. Dr. Sandes was a Brisbane boy, and passed to Sydney University from the Brisbane Grammar School. He had a distinguished record as a scholar. Young Francis Percival Sandes attended the Normal School and winning a State scholarship, went to the Grammar School at the beginning of 1889. Those were the days before the founding of the Queens land University and the Sydney examinations were the .passport to higher things. Sandes sat for the Sydney junior in 1891 and passed with seven A passes. The senior followed two years later, when he gained one of the three exhibition university scholarships then offered by the Queensland Government to enable Queensland students to attend a University.
