Henry Ralph Sandes (1829 - 1904)
Personal details
He emigrated to The United States of America, arriving in New York in 1856 and he became a naturalized citizen of the United States 20 January 1862.
He was a Captain for the Third Wisconsin Volunteer Cavalry in the Union Army and fought in the American Civil war. He was wounded in 1863 near Little Rock Arkansas during the Battle of Pine Bluff and subsequent Union occupation of Little Rock.
In the 1880 census, Henry and his family were living in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana.
In 1895 he was living at the US National Home for disabled volunteer soldiers in Danville, Illinois. Whilst there, he gave his closest living relative as Margaret I. Sandes of 1194 Palmer Street, Chicago, Illinois.
